"That We May Present Every Man Perfect in Christ Jesus"
Colossians 1:28
It is the desire of Heritage Baptist Church that we may indeed as Paul says, "Present every man perfect in Christ Jesus." We believe that included in the "every man" is "every teenager." Because of that belief, we desire to see each teenager become the Six-Star Spiritual Youth. If the Government can have five-star Generals, surely God can have Six-Star Teens.
What then are the elements of a Six-Star Spiritual Youth?
The first necessity of any teen (or any adult) who wants to be a Champion for God, is that the individual is saved. This means that the individual must be trusting completely in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. A person who is saved realizes that he is a sinner deserving of God's wrath and cannot save himself. He also realizes that God has paid the price for sin by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross of Calvary as a Substitue. The saved person has acted in faith upon that understanding and repented of his sins and taken God's Gift by calling upon the name of the Lord for Salvation.
Another necessary step in the life of a teen (or adult) who wants to be a Champion for God, is that the individual must be surrendered to God. He must be willing to do whatever it is that God would want him to do, whether that is maintaining a strong testimony in school or at work, or going to the mission field to preach to those who have not heard the Gospel. A Surrendered teenager realizes that since Christ died for us, it is only reasonable that we live for Him.
It is also necessary that the person who wants to Champion for God is an individual who studies God's Word. The Bible provides the Christian soldier with a battle plan on how to live the Christian life and how to fight against the enemies of men's souls. It is a light for our path and the Sword of our arsenal. The Christian who wants to know how to follow God, must be careful to regularly read and study the instructions given to us by our Commander-in Chief.
If a Christian wants to have an impact for God, he must also be a Christian who is separated from the sin and the world. This does not mean that the Christian isolates himself from those who are lost. Instead it indicates that a Six-Star Spiritual Youth realizes that Christ said we are to be "in the world" NOT "of the world" and that Christians are to be "salt" and "light" and not be defiled with the filth of this world. A separated Christian realizes "if you want to make a difference, you must be different" and doesn't defile the truth by mixing it with error, even for a seemingly good motive.
A Six-Star Spiritual Youth is also a youth who is concerned, even consumed with the lost souls of those around them. God has given every Christian the task of telling others about the grace of Jesus Christ and the blood He shed. As a Spiritual Christian, we must be careful to develop a burden for those who are still without hope in this world. We cannot be a committed Christian without being a concerned Christian. A Six-Star Spiritual Youth seeks to bring family, friends, and strangers to a loving and giving Savior.
A Six-Star Spiritual Youth realizes that the time to serve God is now, not just in some future "one of these days." He strives even now to use whatever talents God has given him to minister to those around him. He realizes that while he may not be able to do certain things, he can do some things. He realizes that "God has a prepared place for a prepared man" and seeks to become more prepared at each opportunity. He realizes that Christ left us the example of servanthood and seeks to follow that model in home, school, and church.
I would like to thank Dr. Frank Hamrick and POSACT for some of the ideas behind the "Six-Star Spiritual Youth."
